Jasper National Park was established in 1907, and spans 10,878 square kilometres (4200 square miles) of valleys, rugged mountains, ancient glaciers, forests, alpine meadows and raging rivers along the eastern slopes of the Rockies in western Alberta.
Jasper National Park features the highest mountain in Alberta - Mt Columbia at 3747metres/12,293feet, and the Columbia Icefield. One distinguishing factor that sets Jasper National Park apart from the others is the extent of remote wilderness. In some cases these areas can only be reached by foot, horseback, or by canoe.
