Join us for 3 days of exploration, mind-blowing scenery, and discovery of all the things that make Northern Vancouver Island unique. Join us for this unforgetable "North Island Explorer" Tour
Arrive today by your own arrangements, and check in to your accommodation - a charming Bed and Breakfast.
We depart the community of Port McNeill at around 2:00pm for our first stop of the day, where few people venture. Working with different textures of rocks and boulders, long exposure, and the vistas of the Broughton Strait, your photographic creativity will begin to flow.
Moving on, and leaving the coast behind for now, we head to the Nimpkish River. We will spend some time here at a fabulous property which boasts a spectacular display of colorful blooms - a real feast for the eyes!
Follow the meandering trail which leads to the river under the canopy of the forest. There are the unravelling ferns, wild lilly of the valley, and many other forest dwelling plants to keep you and your macro busy.
We leave for our next stop, Telegraph Cove. This tiny historic community comprises of only approximately 20 residents, and boasts to being one of the last boardwalk communities in British Columbia. You can see the original early 1900's buildings which were built on stilts, and are now part of the resort accommodation.
Spend some time here to be creative with the many unique subjects available to photograph in this pretty cove. There are boats constantly coming and going from the harbor, activity on the boardwalk, as well as eagles perched in the tree tops above. Orca Whales have also been known to visit the cove at times.
We have included a visit to the Whale Interpretive Centre located at the far end of the boardwalk. The centre houses the "Bones Project", which was founded with a vision to bringing an increased public awareness of the biology, and habitat needs of local marine mammals.
We wander back along the boardwalk, and return you to your Port McNeill accommodation at around 6:00pm-6:30pm.
We will take you to a spectacular location and one of our absolute favourite hidden secrets, where only a few people have been.
Departing around 7:00pm-7:30pm (depending on sunset times), we will travel on some of the many logging roads in this area, which will take us to an elevation of approximately 800 metres.
Our aim for tonight is to be at this location in time to set up for a magnificient sunset. As we climb higher on the winding gravel road, the trees begin to give way to a panoramic view across the Broughton Archipelago to mainland BC, Malcolm Island, Cormorant Island, and beyond. The sun sets with an explosion of colours reflecting on the waters and landscape below. Then as night falls you will see the vivid dark blues appear in the night sky.
We return to Port McNeill between 9:00pm-9:30pm.
